We purchased our house in the village of Polkovnik Serafimovo, which is situated in the Rhodopi mountains, in 2004, after falling in love with the region on our first visit earlier that year. Slowly but surely the lure of the mountains became too strong to resist and we decided to sell up our business in the uk and move here permanently. We finally left the uk in november 2005, and started to drive south, accompanied by our four dogs, cat and towing a large horse trailer full of our wordly possessions. Having been told our house would be ready by christmas, we trekked slowly across europe, staying with friends and family. Christmas arrived but due to builders and adverse weather conditions it was far from being completed.We finally moved in on the 24th may 2006, regardless of the fact we had no water or kitchen.

Things have now moved on and we decided to purchase a second house in the village last year which has been converted into two, self contained, one bedroom apartments. We are currently awaiting the arrival of our paint(coloured) horses and ponies. Trekking of any kind in the Rhodopi mountains is unrivalled in europe, not only because of its unspoilt wilderness, but also its lack of fences and traffic. You will be able to walk or  ride out of the village on one of the many tracks, through beech forests and mountain pastures, crossing the occasional crystal clear stream. Spectacular scenery surrounds you as you step back in time as you pass through traditional mountain villages. Our Landrover Discovery is ready and waiting to take you on trips and excursions to monasteries, spas, caves, museums and folklore festivals,or you can just relax on your balcony, breath in the unpolluted air and watch time stand still.
The list of daily pursuits is endless. When we came to live here our friends in the uk said we would miss homelife and be bored. We never know where each day goes, time passes by so fast!
